Welcome to Fairfield First School! Fairfield First School has been at the heart of the village of Fairfield since 1875, catering for children from the Early Years Foundation Stage to Year 4 (4 – 9 years). We are a small, friendly, village school, where each child is valued and respected. Our aim is to provide a happy, caring, safe, secure and stimulating environment where children are supported to achieve their potential and enjoy their school life, whilst gaining the skills to go on to play a full and active role in an ever changing world.

We have developed and maintained many links within our local community, whilst striving to ensure our children have a broad experience of the ever changing world beyond our school. We value the diverse backgrounds of all of our children and their families and arrange a variety of events and activities to help celebrate these. We have found this approach to be both worthwhile for our children but also an excellent way to extend relationships with our families and stakeholders. It encourages and teaches our children tolerance and respect for the differences within our community and the wider world.

At Fairfield we expect:
Good attendance and punctuality Good behaviour Good manners To help and respect each other

We follow a creative approach to our curriculum wherever it is appropriate, grouping subjects together under themes and headings and making lots of cross-curricular links.

In this way, we aim to make learning and teaching exciting, dynamic and inspiring to help our children to appreciate how many areas of learning (and life) are interlinked, ensuring that our children are equipped with the skills to make a positive contribution to our ever changing world.

As a small school we are able to really get to know our children and can quickly get to know their hobbies and interests. This means that we can arrange themes and topics to meet the interests of our children.

We feel that it is very important to offer our children a wide variety of experiences, whether it be playing for a sports team, learning a musical instrument, singing on stage, dancing, drawing, reading or speaking another language.

Learning at Fairfield is exciting and fun, so that our children love their learning and experience vibrant, challenging and enriched activities.

Children are encouraged to take ownership of their learning, challenging themselves to reach their full potential, in a warm, safe, caring and stimulating environment. Praise and encouragement are consistently used to help develop each child’s self esteem and confidence.

We go to great lengths to get to know and understand all of our children, this then helps us to personalise activities and the provision we offer, to best meet their needs. Learning is embedded by using high quality resources, visits to relevant places and through using our highly skilled staff team.

Our children learn through an innovative, relevant and fun curriculum. Building good relationships with our families helps us to find the best way in which to inspire and challenge our children.

Here at Fairfield, we aim to encourage all of our children to have an appreciation of the world around us. Many parts of The Fairfield Curriculum have been adapted to take place outside:

We find that Forest School and other outdoor activities help to support the holistic development of our children, including:

  • Health and fitness – Being active in an outdoor, natural environment.
  • Increased emotional wellbeing – Being confident and self-reliant.
  • Social development – Communicating, and negotiating with children and adults to solve problems and share experiences.
  • Skills development – Developing fine and gross motor skills and coordination for real purposes.
  • Gaining knowledge and understanding – Using all of our senses, problem solving and real-life learning.
  • Individualised learning – Careful observation allows adults to tailor support to children’s own interests and stage of development.
  • Curriculum Links – Forest School supports many areas of National Curriculum.

We work hard to establish good relationships with our parents and families. We strongly believe that education is a joint venture and we encourage full parental involvement in Fairfield life.

We have a thriving Parents, Teachers and Friends Association, which has helped to develop and forge strong links between home and school, through a variety of social and fund-raising events.

We also aim to use the resources that are closest to us, e.g. Pepper Wood, the Post Office, St Mark’s Church and a variety of members of the local community.

We also work very closely with the local pre-school and nursery settings as well as other local schools, to ensure smooth transition pathways and to offer rigour to our judgements.

Staff and Governors are very proud to be a part of the Fairfield community and hope that we can foster such pride in your child, so that they are proud to attend Fairfield and appreciate our wonderful surroundings.

Education is a joint venture and we encourage full parental involvement in Fairfield life.
