    Our Year 3 Curriculum Overview

    Autumn term

    English in Chestnut

    This term we will be writing for a variety of purposes based on lots of different texts and experiences. 

    We will be writing from the perspective of a Stone Age child, writing a newspaper article and creating stories in the Stone Age.

    Reading in Chestnut

    We will continue to use VIPERS as our whole class reading approach. This term we will be using the book 'The Hodgeheg' as our class text. 

    Maths in Chestnut

    This term we will be covering Place Value, Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division.

    Our KIRFS focus will be 'I can recall facts number facts up to 20'.

    PE - Fundamentals and Gymnastics

    Art (Autumn 1)- Drawing realistic flowers.

    DT (Autumn 2) - How can a scarf be comfortable and fashionable.

    PSHE - Being Me in my world

    History(Autumn 1)  - Stone Age to Iron Age

    Geography (Autumn 2) - How is farm to fork different in Fairfield and Birmingham.

    RE - Christianity 'What is it like to follow God'

    French - saying the alphabet and numbers in French.

    Homework

    Weekly spellings from SpellingShed will be sent home on Mondays ready for a test on Fridays.

    Times Tables Rock Stars should be used as much as possible to improve rapid recall of times tables, ready for the statutory assessment in year 4. 

    Optional homework is provided every half term to earn some extra house points! Work can be brought into school or submitted on Google Classroom.

    Enrichment and Learning Outside the Classroom

    Chestnut have their Learning Outside the Classroom sessions every week on Wednesdays.  Kits should be brought into school and stored in the forest school pigeonholes, ready for the session that day. The children should be prepared for the weather, and have long-sleeved tops and trousers at all times. 

    Chestnut will have a range of enrichment activities available including weekly Ukulele lessons.
