    Our Year 3 Curriculum Overview

    Summer term

    English in Chestnut

    This term we will be writing for a variety of purposes based on lots of different texts and experiences. We will be focusing on There's a lion in my cornflakes by Michelle Robinson and Jim Field. We will be writing persuasive letters and diary entries.

     

    Reading in Chestnut

    We will continue to use VIPERS as our whole class reading approach. This term we will be using the book James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl as our class text. 

    Maths in Chestnut

    This term we will be covering Fractions, Money, Time and Statistics.

    Science in Chestnut

    This term we will be focusing on the topics of Forces and Light.

    Foundation subjects in Chestnut

     

    PE - tag rugby, tennis and preparation for sports day.

    Art - looking at what materials Anthony Caro used to create shape and space in nature.

    DT - How a pneumatic system makes a mechanism move.

    PSHE - Relationships and Changing Me

    History - Ancient Rome

    Geography - Rainforests versus Deserts

    RE - Judaism and Christianity.

    French - Colours and a French day out.

    Homework

     

    Weekly spellings from Spelling Shed will be sent home on Mondays ready for a test on Fridays.

    Times Tables Rock Stars should be used as much as possible to improve rapid recall of times tables, ready for the statutory assessment in year 4. 

    Optional homework is provided every half term to earn some extra house points! Work can be brought into school or submitted on Google Classroom. More information will be shared about this on Google Classroom.

    KIRFS

    This half term our focus is the 4 times table.

    Enrichment and Learning Outside the Classroom

    Chestnut have their Learning Outside the Classroom sessions every week on Wednesdays.  Kits should be brought into school and stored in the forest school pigeonholes, ready for the session that day. The children should be prepared for the weather, and have long-sleeved tops and trousers at all times and sun hats when needed. 

    Chestnut will have a range of enrichment activities available including weekly Ukulele lessons.
