Summer 2025..... here we come!

Summer term is here! We have arrived at the third, and sadly, final term in our Reception year, and it feels like it has flown by. This term we will be consolidating all the skills and knowledge learnt so far and learning lots of new ones too, in order to be fully prepared for Year One in September!

We are becoming little authors this term and will be spending lots of time absorbed in stories, enjoying drama, spending time talking and of course writing and illustrating our own narratives! ‘Sowing the seed’ for a love of writing begins in the Early Years, and we will be encouraging children to have a go and channel their inner Rowling, Walliams and Rosen!

To support our vision, we will be delving into much-loved traditional tales like Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Little Red Riding Hood and The Gingerbread Man. Our learning will stem from a narrative every week and all of our activities will be linked to the books.

How many traditional tales does your child already know we wonder?

In Phonics this term we are moving onto Phase 4. Phase 4 is where children begin to read and write consonant digraphs. For example, pram, drag, trip etc. These can be a little trickier to hear and will need a lot of practise. We are working on pace, fluency, prosody and comprehension via our group reading sessions. Don't forget to log onto Collins e-books at home to listen to your child read. New books are added on a Thursday. HAPPY READING!

Things to remember:-

Forest School will continue to take place on Tuesday afternoons. Remember sun hats, applied lotion and gloves/long sleeves in the summer term.

PE lessons will be on a Tuesday and Thursday or Friday.

Library books will be changed on a Friday!

It wouldn't be the Summer Term at Fairfield unless it was jam-packed with all the additional events that our amazing curriculum offers! We will, of course, be celebrating our school’s 150th Anniversary during June with a variety of activities. Parents will be invited to join in with many of the activities, so keep an eye on the dates through the newsletter each week.  School trips, sporting events and two weeks of swimming will all add to the fun!

Let’s hope the weather plays ball too!

Looking forward to September for your children, Oak staff are working alongside Year One teachers to ensure that children are ready both academically, and pastorally, for the step-up into Key Stage One. It will be lovely for the children to become more familiar with the classroom and staff this term.

Keep up to date with school life by reading the Friday Newsletter, reading emails and texts from school and following us on X. Please also check your emails to keep up-to-date with the information we share on Google classroom.
