The children have loved finding out about different authors and the books they have written/illustrated. The aim is that they can recall these authors and some of the books that they have written when asked. This will hopefully instil a love of reading for the future.
This terms authors are:
Sue Hendra, Nick Sharratt, Oliver Jeffers and Rachel Bright.
We will also be focussing on Science and Design Technology this term.
We will be:

Our Design Technology unit this half term:
We will be preparing foods by cutting and juicing and selecting fruits and vegetables to create a smoothie to meet a design brief.
We are continuing using Little Wandle Letters and Sounds this term.
Phonics continues to be taught daily in Beech class. This term we will be consolidating all Phase 3/4/5 phonemes that we have learnt so far.
This term is also when the children take part in the Phonic Screening Check. All Year 1 children do this nationally in the week beginning Monday 10th June 2024. This is nothing that the children should be worried about, they will be fully supported and any extra help they may need will be tailor-made to each individual child. You will find some information about the check in the attachments below. Any questions at all you might have, please feel free to ask us.

We will continue to access e-books on the Collins site/app. The new book that the children will have been reading all week will be put into your online library on a Friday. When they read it to you, they should be reading it fluently and showcasing their skills of decoding, prosody and comprehension.
We will also continue to visit the library on Wednesday and bring a book to share with you and the family. This is a book that is for sharing together to encourage real pleasure for reading.
We will be covering all Summer term content using the White Rose education programme, but also consolidating past skills too.
You can help at home by:
- continue to rehearse number bonds to 10 and, when they are secure, number bonds to 20.
- count in 2's, 5's and 10's
- talk about halves and quarters when cooking, giving out sweets
- practice telling the time to the hour and half hour using traditional clock face
- let the children explore your purse/wallet recognising coins/notes and counting 2,5 and 10p coins. The problems below represent the required level at Year 1.
Have a look at our Summer overview planning which is linked at the bottom of this page.
