    Summer 2024..... here we come!

Summer term is here! We have arrived at the third, and sadly, final term in our Reception year, and it feels like it has flown by. This term we will be consolidating all the skills and knowledge learnt so far, and learning lots of new ones too, in order to be fully prepared for Year One in September!

We are becoming little authors this term and will be spending lots of time absorbed in stories, enjoying drama, spending time talking and writing and illustrating our own narratives! “Sewing the seed” for a love of writing begins in the Early Years, and we will be encouraging children to have a go and channel their inner Rowling, Walliams and Rosen!

To support our vision, we will be delving into much loved traditional tales like Goldilocks, Little Red Riding Hood, The Three Little Pigs, The Ugly Ducking and The Gingerbread Man. Our learning will stem from a narrative every week and all of our activities will be linked to the book.

How many traditional tales does your child already know we wonder?

We loved Rosie the Rabbit so very much that during the Summer term, we will have a new friend to come home and stay with you. This will be linked to a non-fiction book and support all of our prior learning from the Spring Term. WATCH THIS SPACE! This is so exciting!

In Phonics this term we are moving onto Phase 4. Phase 4 is where children begin to read and write consonant digraphs. For example, pram, drag, trip etc. These can be a little trickier to hear and will need a lot of practise. We are working on pace, fluency, prosody and comprehension via our group reading sessions. Don't forget to log onto Collins e-books at home to listen to your child read. New books are added on a Thursday. HAPPY READING!

Don't forget we follow Little Wandle Letters and Sounds! Please see the information below on how best to support your child at home. https://www.littlewandlelettersandsounds.org.uk/resources/for-parents/

It wouldn't be the Summer Term at Fairfield unless it was jam-packed with all the additional events that our amazing curriculum offers! We are off on our school trip to The Think Tank Museum, will have a whole week dedicated to Sports and Well-being (including traditional sports day) and we will have a glorious week of Fairfield Arts. There are lots of opportunities for our families to be involved this term too. Keep an eye on the dates via the weekly newsletter!

Oak staff are working alongside Year One teachers to ensure that children are ready both academically, and pastorally, for the step-up into Key Stage One. It will be lovely for the children to become more familiar with the classroom and staff this term.
