We will be finding out about animals from the smallest to the very largest.

As we always do, our learning is very much inspired by both fiction and non-fiction books.

We will be focussing on History and Science this term.

We will be:

  • creating our own life timelines
  • classifying animals
  • sorting animals into groups
  • looking into the life of the famous naturist David Attenborough
  • finding out about carnivores, herbivores, and omnivores
  • investigating the 3 main dinosaur eras and the life of Mary Anning.

ENGLISH

We will be writing about magical objects, writing a fact file about our favourite

animals and writing a rhyming poem about a dinosaur.

Our Authors of the Month are: Giles Andreas and Lynley Dodd

Our Class Reader will be The Enchanted Wood, which is the first book in the much loved

'The Magic Faraway Tree series' by Enid Blyton. The Magic Faraway Tree has been made into a film which is released at the cinema in March.

We are continuing to use Little Wandle Letters and Sounds in Year One in the Spring Term.

Phonics continues to be taught daily in Beech class. We will be continuing to learn new Phase 5 sounds. . Children who still need support with Phases 3 and 4 will get daily input to make sure that nobody gets left behind. Words from our new sounds will continue to be put on Google Classroom, so please check that daily.

Every Friday you will receive a revision sheet which goes over the weeks sounds. It would be of great benefit to go over these sheets to make sure all sounds are fully understood.

You can find out more about Little Wandle Letters and Sounds by clicking on the link

Live phonics lesson on Tuesday 3rd February 2026 @ 9am

Please come along to see a real live phonics lesson and phonics Q and A afterwards.

We will continue to access e-books on the Collins site/app. The new book that the children will have been reading during their reading sessions will be put into your online library on a Wednesday. When they read it to you, they should be reading it fluently and showcasing their skills of decoding, prosody and comprehension.

We will also visit the library on Wednesday and bring a book to share with you and the family. This is a book that is for sharing together to encourage real pleasure for reading.
